Project Management Part 1 – Creating Projects

Workshop Overview

Projects are an excellent process to develop practical leadership skills. In addition, projects are a common approach used by organisations to create the outcomes they are trying to achieve. This workshop outlines the three part project management series, provides students with an understanding of the essential Employability Skills that are required for a successful career, and provides the students with a practical and fun process designed to tap into their creativity while also identifying worthwhile projects for the university community.

Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this workshop students will have:

  • An understanding of Employability Skills and how they relate to career success;
  • A better understanding of how you can apply this model to your student group work, clubs & societies, volunteering and part time & full time work experiences; and
  • Had some fun!

Project Management Part 2 – Launching Projects

Workshop Overview

The project teams formed by the students are real teams. The students will be walked through a process where they will ‘launch’ their project and give themselves every chance of becoming a high performing team. At the conclusion of this workshop the students will have created a draft plan for their project.

Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this workshop students will have:

  • An understanding of the skills, expertise and personality preferences of the members of their project team; and
  • Drafted goals and plan to achieve those goals that is specific to their project.

Project Management Part 3 – Reviewing Projects

Workshop Overview

The final workshop in this series will be conducted after the project has concluded. Students will review their project from start to finish, highlighting the lessons and employability skills that have been developed throughout their journey. Each team will prepare a structured review report that will be used to create an ebook that will represent the entire cohort. The ebook will be a tangible outcome from all of their hard work and will be able to be used in due course to be provided to prospective employers. The faculty will also be able to use the ebook to showcase the benefits of student development programs.

Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this workshop students will have:

  • Experienced a process that can be used for reviewing projects;
  • Identified explicit lessons that relate to the development of employability skills; and
  • Drafted the project report to be submitted one week after the conclusion of this session.
